Welcome to the web site for the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost (EVCP) at UC Berkeley. The EVCP position is currently held by Benjamin E. Hermalin, who began serving in the role on July 1, 2022.

Responsibilities of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost encompass two domains:

As Executive Vice Chancellor, Hermalin serves as Chancellor Carol Christ’s leading senior executive responsible for UC Berkeley’s day-to-day operations, working closely with the Chancellor to develop and implement her vision and priorities for the campus.

As Provost, Hermalin is UC Berkeley’s chief academic officer, responsible for the planning, development, implementation, assessment and enhancement of all academic programs, policies, and supporting infrastructure. He is responsible for ensuring Berkeley's academic preeminence by overseeing faculty recruitment, retention, and renewal as well as through review of appointments, tenure, and promotion for Berkeley's 1,500 full-time faculty. Hermalin is also responsible for the planning, quality, and delivery of education provided to Berkeley's 27,000 undergraduate students and 10,000 graduate students. These activities are carried out in partnership with the Academic Senate under Berkeley’s principles of shared governance.

Supporting EVCP Hermalin in these efforts is a team of Vice Chancellors, Vice Provosts, Deans, and professional staff, all devoted to sustaining Berkeley's public mission and commitment to both access and excellence.
