Announcement: Vice Chancellor - Chief Financial Officer

May 31, 2017

Dear members of the campus community,

We are writing today with an update concerning the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance position.

You may recall that we paused the search for a new Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance (VC-AF) last year in light of the chancellor transition. After a lot of thought, broad consultation with the campus and Academic Senate, and with the support of the original search committee and the UC Office of the President, we have concluded that the campus would be best served if the current VC-AF portfolio were divided between finance on one hand and administration on the other. We are grateful to Vice Chancellor Scott Biddy for his oversight of the VC-AF portfolio for more than a year, as well as his support for this new direction.

As a first step in this process, we are pleased to announce that Rosemarie Rae, campus Chief Financial Officer, has been approved by UC President Janet Napolitano to serve in the role of Vice Chancellor – Chief Financial Officer.  We are grateful that Rosemarie has accepted this new position, which is effective as of June 1, 2017. In her current position, Rosemarie has developed and implemented many of the campus’ strategies to resolve its budget challenges. Rosemarie has been an excellent partner during Carol Christ’s time as Interim Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost and looks forward to continued collaboration in her new role as Chancellor.

Rosemarie joined the campus as Associate Vice Chancellor in March 2014, after a competitive national search. She came to Berkeley from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, where she served as the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer, and has more than 30 years’ experience in both the public and nonprofit sectors. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Radford University and a Masters in Public Administration from American University.

Please join us in thanking Rosemarie for her continued contributions to the campus, and in welcoming her to her new role.

Cordially,

Nicholas Dirks
Chancellor
