Dear Campus Leaders and College of Environmental Design Community,
We are pleased to announce that Daniel G. Chatman has been appointed as interim dean of the College of Environmental Design, effective July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027.
Professor Chatman joined UC Berkeley in 2009 and is the Perloff Family Chair in City & Regional Planning. He earned his B.A. from UC Berkeley, a Master in Public Policy from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in Urban Planning from UCLA. A respected and thoughtful scholar of local and regional land use and transportation policy, Professor Chatman has centered issues of social welfare and equity and contributed to public policy debates.
Professor Chatman has been a member of the CED community for 17 years and brings a deep familiarity with the college's people, programs, and priorities. Most recently, he has served as chair of the Department of City & Regional Planning, building close working relationships across the college.
We are grateful for Professor Chatman’s continued dedication to CED's students, faculty, and staff. Please join us in congratulating him on his interim appointment.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dean Renee Y. Chow for her innovative leadership and incredible accomplishments as CED dean.
