About Benjamin E. Hermalin
Benjamin E. Hermalin has served as Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost at UC Berkeley since July 1, 2022.
As Executive Vice Chancellor, Hermalin is the Chancellor’s senior executive partner for campus operations, contributing to the development and implementation of institutional priorities and ensuring effective coordination across Berkeley’s academic and administrative units.
As Provost, Hermalin serves as Berkeley’s chief academic officer, with responsibility for the university’s academic programs, faculty affairs, and educational mission. His portfolio includes oversight of faculty appointments, tenure, and promotion; leadership in faculty recruitment and retention; and stewardship of the academic experience for Berkeley’s undergraduate and graduate students. He works closely with the Academic Senate in accordance with Berkeley’s shared governance traditions.
Hermalin is supported by a leadership team that includes vice chancellors, vice provosts, deans, and professional staff, all dedicated to sustaining Berkeley’s excellence in research and teaching while advancing its role as a public university in service to California and the world.
