About the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost (EVCP)

The Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost (EVCP) is the central academic and administrative leadership office at the University of California, Berkeley. The EVCP serves as the campus’s chief operating officer and chief academic officer, with responsibility for advancing Berkeley’s mission of excellence in teaching, research, and public service.

In its executive capacity, the EVCP oversees the university’s day-to-day operations and works closely with the Chancellor to shape and implement campus-wide priorities. The office plays a critical role in aligning academic, administrative, and financial planning to support Berkeley’s long-term strategic goals.

In its academic role, the EVCP leads the planning, development, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement of Berkeley’s academic programs and policies. This includes stewardship of faculty recruitment, retention, and renewal; oversight of appointments, tenure, and promotion; and responsibility for the quality and delivery of undergraduate, graduate, and professional education. These efforts are carried out in close partnership with the Academic Senate under Berkeley’s principles of shared governance.
