Disability accommodations

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a civil rights statute which prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. The University of California, in accordance with applicable Federal and State law and University policy, does not discriminate on the basis of physical or mental disability.

Accommodations are adjustments to policies, procedures, and practices that serve to remove barriers and allow students with disabilities to have equal access to participate in their academic programs.

The best place for a student to start for accommodations is the Disabled Students' Program (DSP)

Students should never feel pressured to disclose their medical information. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)(link is external) and/or DSP can support a student in preparing to talk with their instructors about an illness, disability, or hardship.
