Dear Campus Community,
We are pleased to announce that Richard (Rick) Russo has agreed to add University Extension (UNEX) to his portfolio beginning July 1, 2021.
With Diana Wu, dean of University Extension, retiring at the end of June, we have decided to work toward aligning UNEX and Summer Sessions, Study Abroad and Lifelong Learning (SSALL) under one umbrella organization. Rick Russo has agreed to lead this realignment work and assume oversight of the UNEX portfolio during this process. For the time being, the combined portfolio will be referred to as SSALLEX and Rick’s title will be dean of extended education and associate vice chancellor of undergraduate education.
Rick has been dean of Summer Sessions, Study Abroad and Lifelong Learning since 2011. In 2015 Rick took on an additional role as associate vice chancellor of undergraduate education. Prior to the formation of this joint program, Rick was director of Berkeley Summer Sessions since 2005.
Rick came to UC Berkeley in 2005 after a 12-year career at Boston University where he was involved with international education, online degrees, continuing education, summer sessions, and lifelong learning. Rick has an MBA from Boston University and is a certified public accountant.
