Website Vulnerability Issue

Publication date

Dear Campus Community:

As you have likely seen in the news, there is a worldwide security vulnerability affecting PHP software used by many websites. We are working today to address this critical security vulnerability for campus websites.

As a precautionary measure, we have taken the campus homepage and a few other berkeley.edu sites offline while we work with the website host to update the software.

Some good news is that all websites using the Open Berkeley platform received security patches today and are not affected.

If you, your center, institute, department, laboratory or program operate your own website, web server or application please contact your hosting vendor to confirm whether this vulnerability applies to you, and if any remediation is necessary. If your website is hosted on Open Berkeley, no action is required.

We are working as quickly as possible to restore service safely and securely. For more information, visit the IT Security Office website.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Marc Fisher
Vice Chancellor for Administration

Tracy Shinn
Associate Vice Chancellor and CIO, Berkeley IT

Ben Hermalin
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
