Release of Updated Presidential Policy, IMT-1300 Information Technology Accessibility

Publication date

Dear Colleagues,

The UC Presidential Policy, IMT-1300 Information Technology Accessibility, was revised to align with the federal accessibility regulations implementing Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and adds campus administrative processes, roles, requirements, and reporting.

Key Policy Revisions

  • Adoption of the federal law requirements.
  • Establishment of three programs at each location: Accessible Procurement, Accessible Course Content, and Accessible Software/Web Development.
  • Guidance and frameworks for procurement of accessible digital products, an exception process for goods and/or services that do not conform to the WCAG 2.1 AA technical standard, and a complaint and grievance process.
  • Requirements for annual reporting to the Office of the President.
  • Requirements for each location’s roles, processes, and authority.

Many of these revisions are reflected in UC Berkeley’s IT Accessibility Policy Program and Advisory Committee’s structure. Individual campus faculty requirements and staff requirements are focused on the new ADA, Title II rules.

The revised policy went into effect March 17, 2026. The updated Policy IMT-1300 can be found on the Office of the President’s Presidential Policy website
