Feedback requested: Proposal to remove building name for Moses Hall

February 8, 2022

The Department of Philosophy has submitted a proposal to the campus Building Name Review Committee to un-name Moses Hall. The Department made this proposal after a thorough and extensive consultation with students, faculty, and staff.

The Building Name Review Committee (BNRC) reviews proposals submitted by the campus community and helps determine if the current name of a building should be changed. After the submission and community feedback process described on our website is complete, the BNRC makes a recommendation to UC Berkeley's chancellor on whether a building’s name should be removed. Identifying a permanent new name for any building approved for un-naming is a separate process that requires additional consultation with our campus community at a later stage.

At this time, the BNRC solicits and welcomes feedback on the Moses Hall proposal. Both the proposal and feedback form can be found on the Building Name Review Committee’s website

The comment period will remain open until Thursday, March 3rd at 2 p.m. Responders may indicate that their comments remain private; if not so indicated, the Committee will curate and post comments on its website.

Thank you for adding your thoughtful perspective to this proposal.

Sincerely,

David Schaffer
