Call for Nominations - Vice Chancellor for Administration

June 1, 2017

Dear members of the campus community,

As previously announced, we have decided to divide the current Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance portfolio into the separate functions of finance and administration. We are writing today to begin the recruitment process for the new position of Vice Chancellor for Administration (VC-A). The search committee formed last year for the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance position has agreed to serve again. In addition, the committee will continue to be supported by consultants from the search firm of Spencer Stuart.

As the university’s chief administrative officer, the VC-A will support Berkeley’s academic mission through strategic policy and managerial leadership of campus operations, heading a division of over 1,800 staff whose work spans human resources, information technology, facilities management, police, procurement, and other administrative functions. This position will be a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet and will work closely with the Vice Chancellor -Chief Financial Officer.

The immediate agenda for the VC-A will include transforming the campus’ operational efficiency while supporting the institution’s process of financial stabilization.

While we are conducting the search, Vice Chancellor Scott Biddy will continue to oversee this portfolio. The position description can be found here. We encourage your thoughts on possible candidates, which you can send to BerkeleyVCA@spencerstuart.com

Sincerely,

Nicholas Dirks
Chancellor
