Update - Dean of the Division of Arts & Humanities

March 12, 2020

Dear colleagues,

After completing ten years of service, Anthony J. Cascardi is planning to step down as the Dean of the Division of Arts & Humanities in the College of Letters & Science at the end of his second five-year term on June 30, 2021.

Although search timelines often do change, our current goal is to post the dean position by the end of the spring 2020 semester, conduct interviews in fall, and announce the new dean by early spring 2021 for a July 1, 2021 start date.

In the next year and a half, Dean Cascardi will be continuing his strong leadership of the division as important work on several key initiatives continues. Among ongoing efforts, he will continue to increase the diversity of the graduate student population of the division by means of strategic fellowship commitments and will continue to create new, broad-gauge curricular opportunities for undergraduates. He will also put the division well on its way toward a total fundraising goal of $150 million for the new capital campaign. Aiming for a smooth and successful leadership transition, Dean Cascardi will also be working with all the departments and communities in the division as we jointly launch a task force on Arts and Humanities for the Future

I would also like to draw your attention to ourdean searches FAQ document, which, we hope, anticipates and answers many of your questions about the process. If you have other questions about the process, please feel free to reach out to Dana Jantz, our dean search coordinator, at jantz@berkeley.edu or (510) 642-9573.

Sincerely,

A. Paul Alivisatos Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
